All competitions open on the 1st and close on the 28th of every month. You can submit to our competitions as long as it is the 28th or earlier in your region.
One chilly December evening, during your family's yearly holiday gathering, you overhear a conversation that completely unravels everything you thought you understood about your family and its history. Maybe an incriminating comment is whispered under someone's breath, an old photograph is found, or a long-lost family member has been discovered - but this news had been kept secret from you, until now. Write a story about the moment a family secret is accidentally revealed and its immediate consequences.

Stuck? Consider these starters:
Who reveals the secret - is it a grandparent, a distant cousin twice removed, or someone else? How do different family members react or respond? What if the secret connects your family to a larger historical event and/or a famous figure? How does this reveal alter your character's relationships and/or future plans?
